How Does the Z06 Compare to the Stingray?

Chevrolet shook up the automotive world when it released the 2020 Corvette Stingray. This model was the first in the storied history of the Corvette to feature a mid-engine design. Prior to this, every generation of the Corvette had been built with an engine in the front end. The move to a mid-engine was to compete with the supercars coming out of Europe and Asia. The Chevy Corvette would match the performance and handling of those supercars with one critical difference: the Corvette is affordable to most sports car drivers.
In keeping with Corvette tradition, Chevy decided to go one better by coming out with a more advanced model called the Z06 in time for the 2023 model year. Now, as we enter a new year, drivers will get a great choice between the 2024 Chevy Corvette Z06 and the Stingray. No matter which one you decide on, you are getting a high-quality sports car at a truly amazing sports car price.
At Guntersville Chevrolet, we are proud to offer drivers the full lineup of Chevy cars, trucks, and SUVs, including the 2024 Corvette. Come in today and see why your next vehicle should be a Chevy. If you are into high performance, the 2024 Chevy Z06 is probably for you.
How Do the Prices Differ, and What Are the Various Trim Levels on the Two Corvettes?
One of the first things you will notice about the difference between the 2024 Corvette Z06 and the Corvette Stingray is the price difference. The Z06 has a base MSRP of $112,700, making it less affordable than the Stingray, which starts at an MSRP of $68,300.[a] This is because the Corvette Z06 is a more advanced sports car. Still, the base MSRP of the Corvette Z06 is significantly less than those of comparable supercars, so you are getting entry into a rarified air of automotive capability at a much lower entry fee than elsewhere.
The Corvette Z06 consists of three different trim levels, each offered as either a coupe or a convertible with a retractable hardtop. The base trim is the 1LZ, followed by the 2LZ and 3LZ. The Corvette Stingray also has three different trim levels, each offered with a choice of a coupe or a retractable hardtop convertible. The three trims are the 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT. In both cases, the convertible version is priced higher than the coupe. The roof panels on the Corvette coupes are removable, but this must be done manually. The convertible allows you to retract the roof with the push of a button as long as you are driving at or below 30 mph.
How Do the Engines and Performance Compare on the Z06 and Stingray?
Comparing the performance between the two 2024 Corvette models is like differentiating between excellent and insane. First, the excellent: the 2024 Corvette Stingray comes equipped with an LT2 6.2L V8 gas engine with an M1L eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. This engine features variable valve timing and Active Fuel Management, which deactivates some cylinders when cruising at a lower speed. The engine block itself is made from cast aluminum with cast-in iron cylinder liners and nodular main bearing caps. The cylinder heads are also made from cast aluminum. The engine features two valves per cylinder, for a total of 16 valves. As a result, this engine uses direct fuel injection to deliver up to 495 hp at 6450 RPM and 470 lb-ft of torque at 5150 RPM. If you opt for the Z51 package or a Performance Exhaust on your Corvette Stingray, you can boost output to 495 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque.
The 2024 Corvette Z06 goes beyond this to provide a truly insane amount of output in a sports car. The standard engine on the Z06 is an LT6 5.5-liter V8 gas engine, also paired with an M1L eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. While this is a smaller engine, it is more powerful, using a dual overhead camshaft configuration to double the number of valves, going from 16 to 32 valves for its eight cylinders. The engine itself is also made of cast aluminum with cast-in iron cylinder liners, but it features four-bolt main bearing caps. The cylinders are also made of cast aluminum. This engine uses direct injection to deliver an incredible 670 hp at 8400 RPM and 460 lb-ft of torque at 6300 RPM.
When it comes to performance, it is hard to beat either of these Corvette models. The Z06 will get you to 60 mph in an incredible 2.6 seconds. The Stingray takes only slightly longer to get up to speed, taking 2.9 seconds to reach the same speed. If you opt for the Z51 package on the Stingray, you can reach a top speed of 194 mph, while the Corvette Z06 tops out at 189 mph. However, driving at these speeds should be confined to those times you want to really run it out on the track.

Interior Design and Technology
Even though there is a significant price difference between the Z06 and the Stingray, the two models share the essential interior design. Each has space for two passengers, with 12.6 cu.ft. of room in the trunk. This should be just enough for a small suitcase or a pair of overnight bags. The passenger space itself is comfortable, with 37.9 in of headroom and 42.8 in of legroom. If you take the top down on your Corvette, you will get unlimited headroom.
The seating depends on which model you choose. The 1LT and 1LZ feature GT1 bucket seats, while the 2LT and 2LZ trims of the Stingray and the Z06 add heating and ventilation to the seats to improve passenger comfort on colder and warmer days. The steering wheel on the 2LT and 2LZ is also heated. The top trim 3LT on the Stingray and 3LZ on the Z06 feature GT2 seats covered in luxurious Napa leather. The steering wheel on this model is leather-wrapped with carbon-fiber trim and a set of paddle shifters to improve the functionality of the standard dual-clutch transmission. Competition sport bucket seats are available as an option for every trim of the 2024 Corvette Z06 and Stingray. These are designed to provide increased support to you and your passenger and feature a very durable carbon fiber trim.
No matter which model of the 2024 Chevy Corvette you choose, you will get a Chevrolet Infotainment system with Google built-in on an eight-inch diagonal color touchscreen. This provides you with Google Maps for real-time navigation with traffic updates so you can get wherever you are going in your Corvette quickly, safely, and efficiently. You can also make hands-free calls and texts using Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The 2LZ and 3LZ trims of the Z06 and the 2LT and 3LT trims of the Corvette Stingray feature a wireless smartphone charger, so you and your passenger can keep your phones charged even if you’ve left your cables at home.
The other thing that comes standard on every model of the Corvette is a Bose audio system. The 1LT trim of the Stingray and 1LZ trim of the Corvette Z06 has a 10-speaker Bose Premium audio system with black speaker grilles. Opting for one of the two upper trim levels on the Stingray or Z06 will provide you with the Bose Performance Series sound system. This includes 14 speakers strategically placed throughout the passenger cabin of your Corvette. There are also stainless steel speaker grilles, which contrast the interior of the Chevy Corvette.
