  • Overview

There are a lot of different reasons why someone may want an SUV. Maybe you carpool to work and want a vehicle with enough room for all your coworkers to be comfortable. Maybe you take turns getting your kid's soccer team to their game. Maybe you have a soccer team worth of kids all on your own. Or maybe, you like having a lot of room, great features, and excellent capability when you're behind the wheel.

Regardless of why you're checking out SUVs, the new 2023 Chevy Traverse is an excellent midsize SUV for any driver. It's got great performance and power, excellent safety features, and the interior and cargo capacity cannot be beat. Plus, the Traverse has three rows of seating, allowing you to fit up to eight passengers without the vehicle feeling too big to drive comfortably. There are a lot of really great SUVs out there, but the 2023 Traverse is leading the bunch and setting a new, higher standard for what a midsize SUV can and should be able to do.

  • Performance

When it comes down to it, any vehicle is only as good as what it has under its hood. That's why Chevy made sure to put a great engine inside the 2023 Traverse. This 3.6L V6 ensures that drivers of the Traverse get the incredible reliability and consistency that Chevys are known for. Pairing that engine with a 9-speed automatic transmission is a smart move for a vehicle like the Traverse because the fuel efficiency that comes from this pair is phenomenal for drivers.

One Engine That Offers Plenty of Capability

Getting 18 MPG in the city and an exceptional 27 MPG on the highway, you won't have to worry about overspending at the pump. One of the biggest hang-ups people have when it comes to buying an SUV that has three rows is the lack of good fuel economy. These vehicles are usually big and heavy, so they don't fare well at the pump. That's not the case with the 2023 Traverse and its 19.4-gallon fuel tank.

Most people don't think of an SUV when picking out powerful vehicles; they think of a truck. That didn't stop Chevy from giving the 2023 Traverse a great powertrain capable of handling your everyday driving needs and even some towing. The 3.6L V6 engine produces 310 horsepower for quick acceleration, and the 266 lb-ft of torque goes a long way towards making this SUV capable of towing. With a 5,000-pound towing limit, the Traverse can handle a small camp trailer, a four-wheeler/dirt bike trailer, or even a small boat. While this isn't quite at the level of a midsize truck, this SUV is better because it's far more versatile with seating and can still handle bringing extras along for the journey. The performance and the power of the 2023 Traverse definitely scream upgraded and make drivers feel like they're driving the newest and best midsize SUV available.

  • Safety

A white 2023 Chevy Traverse is shown angled right parked in a driveway.

We all like to feel safe when we're driving our vehicles, and the Traverse makes that a reality any time you get behind the wheel. The 2023 Traverse is packed with various safety features that make drivers' lives easier and less stressful, no matter what the road or weather is doing.

    Chevy Safety Assist

The primary set of safety features that comes standard on every Traverse is the Chevy Safety Assist suite. This collection of driver-assist features has everything a driver needs to be safe on the road. For keeping you safe when moving forward, the Traverse has automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, a following distance indicator, and front pedestrian braking. These features help your car respond to potential accidents in front of your vehicle, warning you of impending impacts and even stopping your vehicle if necessary. Chevy includes lane-keep assist with lane departure warning to help you stay within your lane and avoid side incidents, which will alert you of drifting and correct your position if needed. They've also upgraded the headlamps with IntelliBeam technology, which changes the lights from high to low depending on light conditions and traffic.

    Teen Driver

Teen Driver Technology, which comes standard, helps new and learning drivers create and maintain better driving habits. It includes options such as requiring the driver's seat to be buckled in order to drive, a vehicle driving report card that lets parents and teens see where driving can be improved, and it can limit volume levels and other vehicle functions based on parental preference. This package is peace of mind for every parent with a teen driver who is taking the car out on their own.

    Drive Mode Selector

This feature allows drivers to choose between five different driving modes for various road conditions. The Drive Mode Selector allows you to take into account different weather conditions and choose the mode that will make your drive the easiest. Available modes include:

    • Front-Wheel Drive - This mode will give you the best fuel efficiency.
    • All-Wheel Drive - This mode will give you added traction in slippery circumstances.
    • Off-Road - This mode gives you extra torque in the rear to improve handling on off-road terrain.
    • Tow/Haul - This mode is ideal for when you are using any of the 5,000-pound towing capability.
    • Snow - This mode is the best for driving in snowy and icy conditions.

If you have a front-wheel drive Traverse, you won't have the all-wheel drive or off-road modes, so if you want access to everything, you'll need to get an all-wheel drive model.

    OnStar Compatibility

Having the extra peace of mind that if something goes wrong, you will have access to help is always good. OnStar gives drivers who are experiencing an emergency or unexpected roadside issue a way to get in contact with assistance. This allows drivers to get quick, reliable, and expert help if they happen to be in an accident or have their vehicle stolen. It's definitely a great perk that comes with the Traverse.

  • Interior

The black interior of a 2023 Chevy Traverse.

Having a comfortable interior is just as important as having a capable engine. No one wants to feel cramped and uncomfortable, whether you are just running down the street or going on a trip. That's one of the main reasons we recommend the 2023 Traverse for drivers.

Comfort for All Eight Passengers and Room for Cargo

As we have said, the Traverse has room for eight passengers, and if every seat is in use, that leaves 23 cubic feet of cargo space. That's between four to six suitcases depending on the size, or you can fit camp chairs and sleeping bags for everyone. If you need more room, you can fold that third row down for a total of 57.8 cubic feet of storage. If you need even more room than that, the 2023 Traverse maxes out its capacity at 98.2 cubic feet! That's the same capacity as many hallway closets! Plus, if you don't fully need room for eight, there is the option to get a model with second-row captain's chairs. This will lower the seating capacity to seven but give everyone a bit more space. Bottom line; the Traverse won't leave you feeling cramped.

    Excellent Technology

The 2023 Traverse also won't leave you feeling uninformed. The 3.5-inch standard (or 4.2-inch available) driver information center gives drivers all the information they need to know when it comes to their vehicle. You can find your odometer readings, tire pressure, oil life, and even your average fuel economy.

The driver information center isn't the only screen that drivers can use in the Traverse. Chevy has included a standard 7-inch or available 8-inch infotainment screen. Drivers can use this screen to connect to their phones via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This allows drivers to have full access to their phones' hands-free functions and apps, so you can utilize voice commands and Bluetooth connections to play your own music, call your family or friends, and even respond to text messages. The interior of the 2023 Traverse leaves nothing to be desired, and we love how much room and interactivity we see in the 2023 model.
