  • Overview

There is one thing that truck drivers are passionate about, and that’s the brand of truck they drive. While some swear by the Blue Oval, others are die-hard bowtie fans and will drive nothing but a Chevrolet. Models like the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 make that loyalty easy to understand, as Chevy promises the newest iteration in the fleet to be the strongest, most capable, and most advanced Silverado ever made. Talk about raising the stakes.

The die-hard loyalty of Silverado drivers is somewhat surprising considering that the Silverado is fairly new to the Chevy lineup. Introduced in the late 1990s, the Silverado replaced Chevy’s once-popular C/K truck and ushered the entire fleet into a modern era replete with luxury and conveniences like CD players and Bluetooth capability. This makes the 2022 Silverado 1500 even more remarkable, especially when you realize that CD players are a distant memory, having been replaced by satellite radio, streaming services, and the wonderful world of smartphones.

Aside from ditching the CD player of a bygone era, what else does the 2022 Silverado 1500 have to offer? Chevy holds up its end of the bargain and delivers a phenomenal workhorse that’s not only capable of getting the job done but does so with ease and in style. With more premium touches and options for customization, there’s no question that the 2022 Silverado 1500 will set a new standard in the segment by proving you don’t have to sacrifice anything when you’re behind the wheel of a Chevy road warrior.

The New ZR2 Trim Is Trail-Ready

The biggest update to the Silverado lineup for 2022 is the first-ever Silverado ZR2 that rolls off the production line ready for the trail. The ZR2 shows just how attuned Chevy is to its customers as more drivers are looking for off-road capable trucks that can meet the demands of their professional responsibilities and chase weekend adventures on the trail without missing a beat. The ZR2 delivers this balance incredibly well.

The 2022 ZR2 comes straight from the factory with a lifted suspension and 33-inch off-road MT tires that improve the Silverado’s ground clearance and its prowess on a variety of terrain. These distinguishing features are complemented by the ZR2’s black hood insert, exclusive front grille with integrated lighting, and ZR2 badging. Inside, the ZR2 is outfitted with an exclusive Jet Black/Graystone leather-trimmed interior with dark trim that adds another level of luxury to the adventure-ready rig.

Behind the scenes, the ZR2 is ready and capable of handling every adventure thanks to its off-road-specific chassis, suspension, and front and rear e-lockers. Its uniquely tuned springs with Multimatic spool-valve dampers improve how the truck handles on the trail, while its high-approach steel front bumper betters the Silverado’s clearance and delivers a 31.8-degree approach angle to make obstacles easier to ascend. With the underbody protected by unique skid plates, you can confidently blaze a new trail with minimal concern over damaging vital components.

As far as power and performance, the ZR2 is a Silverado at heart and is wildly capable. It’s powered by Chevy’s proven 6.2-liter V8 engine that’s mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission to deliver 420 horses and 460 lb-ft of torque for quick acceleration and responsiveness. As with any Silverado, the ZR2 is more than capable of towing a heavy load and offers a maximum payload of 1,440 pounds and a maximum trailering weight of 8,900 pounds.

  • Technology

Chevy’s top priorities in designing the 2022 Silverado 1500 are to keep drivers connected, informed, and safe. This is apparent when you look at the Silverado’s impressive suite of technology that extends beyond smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. These features are certainly present, but new technology like Super Cruise, a vast array of digital displays, and trailering tools take the spotlight for the newly redesigned workhorse.

    Super Cruise

The 2022 Silverado is the first Chevy truck to offer Super Cruise, which relies on LiDAR map data to navigate over 200,000 miles of compatible roads throughout the United States and Canada. Also capable of sensing the weight of a trailer and adjusting distance as needed to safely stop and accelerate, Chevy’s Super Cruise is phenomenal and actively monitors your focus on the road using a camera in the steering column. When you look away for too long, a light bar in the column illuminates and lets you know that it’s time to refocus your eyes on the road. The system reduces driver fatigue even when you’re towing a trailer and maximizes your safety by monitoring your attention to the road ahead.

    Infotainment System

The 2022 Silverado’s redesigned interior ushers in a new generation of connectivity features that are centralized in the 13.4-inch color touchscreen display and the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The center touchscreen display is home to the Chevy infotainment system, Google built-in tools like Google Maps and Google Play, and smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You can customize the digital instrument cluster to display the information you need or opt for the available Head-Up Display that puts data like speed, mileage, and more in a crisp display on the windshield in front of you.

    Driver-Assist and Safety Technology

While Super Cruise lets you take your hands off the wheel, you’ll find plenty of other safety and driver-assist tech features on the 2022 Silverado that make your time on the road safer and more comfortable. The Silverado comes standard with the Chevy Safety Assist suite of six active safety features that maximize your awareness and minimize the potential for collision. The suite includes advanced technologies like Automatic Emergency Braking that can bring the truck to an emergency stop, Front Pedestrian Braking, a Following Distance Indicator, Forward Collision Alert, IntelliBeam Automatic High Beams for enhanced visibility, and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning.

Technology That Helps You With Towing and Hauling

The 2022 Silverado is a workhorse in every sense of the word, but Chevy takes its capability to the next level by equipping the Silverado with tools that work with you and for you to get any job done. This starts at the back of the truck, where most of the work takes place. The Silverado’s Durabed is the most functional bed in the segment and offers a best-in-class long-bed cargo volume of 89.1 cubic feet. Also equipped with 12 tie-downs, the Durabed is designed to withstand every demand and condition, making it one of the most durable and versatile in the industry.

Moving beyond the bed to the tailgate, the 2022 Silverado embodies the “work smarter not harder” motto with the available Multi-Flex Tailgate. Now available on every trim in the Silverado’s 2022 lineup, the tailgate offers six unique functions that make it easier for you to access the bed or load and unload cargo. The primary gate can be opened from the key fob, a switch inside the truck, or a button on the gate. The primary load stop keeps longer items from sliding out of the bed while the inner gate folds down to give you easier access to the bed. Fold the gate out again, and you’ll find a full-width step that can support up to 375 pounds. The inner gate also offers a load stop to keep items in place and a work surface that’s ideal for holding a laptop, signing documents, or reading blueprints at a job site.

With the Durabed and Multi-Flex Tailgate improving how you haul things in the bed, Chevy shifted its focus to how the Silverado tows a trailer. The Advanced Trailering System is a first in the industry and allows you to create custom trailer profiles, conduct pre-departure checklists, check the trailer lights, and monitor the tire pressure from the center touchscreen display or the myChevrolet mobile app. Behind the scenes, features like Trailer Sway Control, Hill Start Assist, and Auto Grade Braking maximize your control behind the wheel to deliver seamless stability when you’re towing a heavy load.

Last but far from least is the Silverado’s class-leading camera system. The eight-camera system offers 15 unique camera views that make towing and trailering easier. From the center display, you’ll find four available hitch views, six available driving views, and five available parking views that give you the confidence you need whether you’re navigating city traffic, cruising down the highway, or maneuvering into a parking space.
