Drivers looking for a short box should know that the 2019 Silverado’s short box volume trumps its competitors’ by 20 percent. In fact, its short box is 10 cubic feet larger than the F-150’s. Its standard box is also 10 cubic feet larger than the F-150’s, and the long box is 12 cubic feet larger than Ford’s. Chevy pulled off this massive bed volume boost by widening the bed. One thing (or should we say 12 things) we love to show drivers are the 12 standard tie-downs in the Durabed. The Silverado’s previous bed also had tie-downs, but those were only rated at 250 pounds each, while the Durabed’s are rated at 500 pounds, so you get twice the power to secure hefty items.

Chevy made a smart choice of positioning the tie-downs at varying heights in order to give drivers greater versatility. So whether you’re securing tall stacks or short ones, you should find a tie-down just where you need it. If you need even more, there are nine additional tie-downs, each rated for 250 pounds. So, if we do the math there, the standard tie-downs can secure 6,000 pounds, and the available nine can secure 2,250, meaning you can tie down a total of 8,250 pounds in the Durabed if you need to.

Convenient In-Bed Features for Long Days of Work

There are two more available features in the Durabed that are excellent for those who find themselves spending long days at a job site. One of these is the available power outlet in the rear of the bed, on the passenger side. It’s rated for items up to 400 watts. That means that drivers can power things like small coffee makers and refrigerators at a job site to keep everyone nourished and energized for long days at work. Many small stereo systems also run on 400 watts, so you can provide some entertainment while you work. This outlet is also good for powering cordless drill chargers, to keep that critical tool ready to go.
