There’s a New Road Warrior in Town: 8 Features of the 2022 Chevy Silverado

Did you know that the Silverado name has been in the Chevy family since the mid-1970s? First introduced as a trim for the C/K truck, Suburban, and Tahoe, the Silverado name eventually earned its own place in the Chevy fleet with the introduction of the Silverado 1500 in 1999. Since then, the Silverado has continued Chevy’s legacy and established itself as a capable workhorse that can meet every demand of the road. It’s this legacy that we see continued in the 2022 Silverado, which you’ll find on our lot as your Alabama Chevy truck dealer.
The 2022 Silverado expands on the Silverado’s legacy by delivering more capability, technology, and customization options than ever. From the all-new Super Cruise driver-assist tool to the updated 2.7-liter turbocharged high-output engine, the Silverado is a workhorse that works with you and for you to get any job done. Here’s a closer look at its many updates and features that will leave you desperate to get behind the wheel of America’s redesigned road warrior.
#1 – The First-Ever Silverado ZR2
The biggest update to the Silverado lineup for 2022 is the addition of the first-ever Silverado ZR2. Ready for adventure straight from the factory, the ZR2 is a true road warrior with its standard 6.2-liter V8 engine that delivers 420 horsepower, 460 lb-ft of torque, and a trailering capacity of 8,900 pounds. The ZR2, which is instantly distinguished with its black hood insert, badging, and grille with integrated lighting, features an updated suspension, off-road-tuned springs, Multimatic dampers, 33-inch off-road tires, skid plates, and a steel front bumper. These components extend the truck’s capability off the pavement and on the trail, which means even more opportunities for adventure.
#2 – A Powerful Task Force
Chevy streamlines the Silverado’s powertrain lineup for 2022 to deliver more power and capability. The Silverado comes standard with a 2.7-liter turbocharged high-output engine that delivers 310 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque – the most torque from any standard engine in the segment. The 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 engine churns out even more power to the tune of 355 ponies and 383 lb-ft of torque, while the 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 roars to life and delivers 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. The most efficient powerhouse in the lineup is the 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel that delivers 277 horsepower, 460 lb-ft of torque, and a towing capacity of up to 13,300 pounds (up almost 4,000 pounds from last year).
#3 – A Rugged Exterior
Chevy gives the Silverado several exterior updates for 2022, including the addition of Dark Ash, Sand Dune, and Glacier Blue Metallic to the exterior color palette. The new front grille and lower headlamps enhance its confident and rugged stance, while the rear bed retains the Silverado’s renowned versatility and durability. The bed, which is the largest in its class at 89.1 cubic feet, also offers 12 standard tie-downs – the most in the industry. Other features include a power tailgate as well as the available Multi-Flex tailgate that adds six unique functions with its inner gate work surface and load stop, easy access full-width step, and primary gate and load stop, all of which are designed to make accessing the bed easy and convenient.

#4 – A Functional and Sophisticated Interior
The Silverado has long proven that a rugged workhorse can be both functional and sophisticated. This holds true for the 2022 Silverado that offers a more spacious cabin outfitted with premium materials and cutting-edge technology. Chevy adds several new colors and seat designs to the Silverado’s interior palette, along with available upgrades like wood trim accents, leather seating, and stainless steel speaker grilles. You’ll also find more technology than ever with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel and a 13.4-inch horizontal touchscreen.
#5 – Intuitive Connectivity
The focal point of the 2022 Silverado cabin is its digital displays that offer the latest technology available. From the driver’s seat, you’ll have access to a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster that gives you an immediate view of your speed, mileage, fuel level, and more. You can also opt for the Head-Up Display that puts this information in a crisp display on the windshield in front of you.
The heart of the Silverado’s technology is the 13.4-inch touchscreen display that’s home to the new Chevrolet infotainment system. Offering smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the infotainment system also offers a state-of-the-art navigation system as well as Google compatibility. This outfits the Silverado with a personal assistant that you can access with a simple, “Hey, Google.” The tool can stream your favorite music, set reminders, adjust the temperature inside the Silverado, make calls, respond to texts, and more. For Amazon fans, Alexa is also available and offers the same functions.
#6 – Cutting-Edge Driver-Assist Technology
The 2022 Silverado is the first truck in the Chevy lineup to offer Super Cruise, which is the first true hands-free driver assistance technology in the industry. Super Cruise works with over 200,000 miles of roads throughout the United States and Canada, allowing you to take your hands off the wheel and let the Silverado do the work for you. How does it work?
Super Cruise relies on map data and the Silverado’s Driver Attention System, which uses a camera on the top of the steering column to monitor where you’re looking. When you turn your eyes away from the road for too long, a light bar in the steering wheel will illuminate to get your attention. If it happens too often, the system adds an audible alert that notifies you to put your hands back on the wheel.

#7 – Towing Made Easy
The 2022 Silverado maintains its title as a capable workhorse with its ability to tow heavy loads. Chevy makes this easier with a suite of trailering technology that’s designed to give you the confidence you need when you’re behind the wheel. The Silverado is equipped with up to eight cameras that deliver 15 unique views around the truck and trailer, the most in the segment. You can also add the Advanced Trailering System and the in-vehicle trailering app that allows you to create custom trailer profiles.
#8 – Peace of Mind on the Road
Just as there’s no shortage of connectivity features in the Silverado, you’ll find plenty of safety features in the newly redesigned truck. The Chevy Safety Assist suite comes standard on every model and includes six active safety tools:
- Automatic Emergency Braking
- Forward Collision Alert
- Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning
- Front Pedestrian Braking
- Following Distance Indicator
- IntelliBeam automatic high beams
The truck is also equipped with a standard rear vision camera that you can upgrade to an HD Rear Vision Camera. Other available tools include the Rear Camera Mirror that gives you a wider, less obstructed view behind the truck at all times.
America’s Favorite Workhorse Retains Its Title
Decades ago, Chevy used the slogan “The Heartbeat of America.” We believe that slogan holds true today, especially when you look at the 2022 Silverado and everything the truck has to offer. Its exceptional suite of connectivity tools and standard safety features, along with its impressive towing capability, ready it for any job. Add in the all-new ZR2 that’s ready for the trail, and it’s easy to see why the Silverado is still one of America’s best-selling trucks after two decades on the road.
