Guntersville Chevrolet takes great pride in being a sponsor of the highly anticipated Guntersville Lake HydroFest, an annual boat-racing extravaganza held on the picturesque Lake Guntersville. This year, the event took place on June 24-25 and proved to be an enormous success, all thanks to the dedicated planning committee and the invaluable support of volunteers. We extend our warmest congratulations to Corey Peabody and the Strong Racing team for their outstanding performance, as Corey claimed the coveted Southern Cup by securing the highest points during the exhilarating two days of racing on Lake Guntersville.

The 2023 HydroFest showcased an impressive lineup of boats across three thrilling classes:

H1 Unlimiteds: The H1 Unlimiteds, true marvels of engineering, are equipped with turbine engines generating an astounding 3,000 horsepower. These hydroplanes also feature World War II-era Allison V-12 engines, producing approximately 2,500 horsepower. With such immense power at their disposal, the drivers can achieve speeds approaching 200 mph, leaving a monumental 60-foot tall, 300-foot long wall of water, famously known as a “roostertail,” in their wake. The H1 Unlimiteds, renowned for their unrestricted races, provide an awe-inspiring spectacle for fans lining the shorelines of water bodies throughout the United States.

Grand Prix America Hydroplanes: Slightly smaller than the Unlimiteds, the Grand Prix America Hydroplanes create a symphony of sound and excitement as they tear through the water. These hydroplanes are known for their impressive display of power, shooting up massive rooster tails that thrill spectators. Guntersville Chevrolet proudly sponsored a couple of heats in this class, and our very own General Manager, Bruce Moss, had the honor of presenting a trophy to Bobby King & the GP-88 HydroFish team for their victory in the GPA Heat 1.

Pro-Lite Series: As the smallest class among the three, the Pro-Lite Series boats deliver heart-pounding action with their engines running up to 355 cubic inches. Despite their smaller size, these boats showcase remarkable agility and provide spectators with intense racing moments.

Prior to the races, Guntersville Chevrolet had the privilege of hosting the Go3 Racing Team Griggs Miss Ace Hardware, also known as The Turbinator, the world’s fastest piston powered hydroplane, on June 22nd. Enthusiastic fans gathered to capture their photos with the boat, and got some awesome swag that the Explore Lake Guntersville team were handing out, making it a truly remarkable experience.

Throughout the races, Guntersville Chevrolet proudly displayed several brand new Chevrolet Silverado trucks.
