Chevy Equinox Through the Years

The Chevrolet Equinox was first introduced in late 2004 as a model year 2005 option. It was designed to meet the demand for a smaller, crossover SUV that offered both all-wheel and front-wheel drive versions. The first generation, which ran through 2009, gave drivers the choice of four-cylinder or V6 engines. Drivers quickly gravitated toward it thanks to its low price, roomy interior, and smooth ride.

Chevy Equinox Trim Options

The Equinox offers four core trims. Each trim is detailed below to give you the information you need when determining which Equinox is best for you.

Equinox LS

The base-level Equinox has a 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a six-speed automatic transmission. The LS also comes with standard switchable all-wheel drive. This system sends torque to all four wheels, allowing for better traction control regardless of road conditions. The switchable part enters the equation to let you choose when the system is activated and when it’s not. While it can be left on all the time, doing so may affect fuel efficiency.

There are six standard driver-assist features to keep you and your passengers safe on the road. These include Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Following Distance Indicator, and Intellibeam Auto High Beams. You’ll also find a standard Rear Vision Camera, Rear Seat Reminder, and Teen Driver Technology.

The Equinox LS has 17-inch all-season blackwall tires with 17-inch aluminum wheels. It also has heated outside mirrors, which are perfect for chilly mornings. Rounding out the exterior features are LED headlights and a manual liftgate that opens up to generous cargo space.

Equinox LT

The LT offers many of the same great features you’ll find in the LS, with a few tweaks. The outside is upgraded with body-colored trim and additional chrome accents, as well as the addition of the available Confidence and Convenience Package. This package upgrades the standard safety features to include Front and Rear Park Assist, provides Remote Start, and keeps everyone comfortable with dual-zone automatic climate control. It also gives you heated driver and front passenger seats and a power-programmable liftgate.

You’ll also notice a difference in the driver information system as it increases to 4.2 inches, but the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 System diagonal color touchscreen remains the same seven-inch size as in the LS. However, upgrading to an eight-inch system with navigation is possible. Comfort and connectivity are fairly similar to those of the LS, with a seamless connection to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but the LT trim does offer increased cushioning for you and your front-seat passenger with power-adjustable seats. In addition to the safety features above, the LT gives you Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

Equinox RS

One look at the RS, and you can see that it’s the “sporty” version of the Equinox. It is the only trim to offer 19-inch all-season blackwall tires with 19-inch aluminum wheels in addition to front and rear black bowtie emblems and an RS badge. And while it offers LED headlights like the LS and LT, it also gives drivers LED tail lamps. The RS also makes loading and unloading easier with the power-programmable liftgate. Adding to the sporty vibe, you can access the Roof-Mounted Side Rails to transport camping gear for a weekend at Gorge Trailhead. For the interior, the RS offers the same standard features as the LT.

Equinox Premier

The Equinox Premier gives you luxury and performance all rolled into one, combining the best features of the first three trim levels and then giving you even more.
