Check Out Six of Our Favorite Full-Size Trucks

There’s no denying that a full-size truck is something special; few other vehicles (if any) come close to delivering the level of power, capability, and functionality that a big truck can manage. While we certainly love the feel of driving a new truck, we also appreciate the desire to keep a great pickup on the road even longer, which is why we provide so many fantastic used trucks for sale for you to choose from. If you’re looking for something with a modest size, then you might consider a midsize model like the Chevy Colorado or Ford Ranger, but for hard-working trucks, nothing beats a full-size option.
That being said, you have a surprising number of models available to you as you start looking at used pickups, so it helps to narrow things down a bit. Today, we’re going to look at six of our favorite full-size trucks when you’re shopping for used vehicles and take a look at a couple of key model years you should consider. This will make it easier to narrow down all of the options available to you and make sure you get everything you’re looking for. Let’s jump in!
Truck #1 – The Chevy Silverado 1500
We’re a Chevy dealership, so it should come as no surprise that topping our list of amazing used full-size trucks is the legendary Chevy Silverado 1500. What do you want us to say? However, this goes beyond brand loyalty as the Silverado 1500 is undeniably one of the best trucks on the road (it’s our favorite, but even plenty of Ford and Ram fans will admit that it’s a great pickup). You get incredible power and performance in these trucks, with engines built to keep working as hard as you do, providing you with the muscle to haul tons of weight and rugged engineering that can go anywhere you need to reach. Look for models from 2014 to 2018 if you want an older used option with great features or a used Silverado from 2019 and later for the most recent generation.
Truck #2 – The Ford F-150
While we love our Chevy trucks, we’re not going to argue that the Ford F-150 is anything other than a legend in the auto industry that’s been making an incredible name for itself ever since it hit the road. First introduced in 1975 as part of the sixth generation of the Ford F-Series, the F-150 became an instant hit and was the top-selling truck in the US within a decade, a position it has not lost since. This means there are a ton of used models available to you since this truck has been around a long time—though we wouldn’t recommend going back to one from the 1970s unless you’re looking for a collector’s item. Instead, focus on an F-150 from 2015 to 2020 to get a previous-generation model with great features or one from 2021 and later for a current-generation Ford F-150.

Truck #3 – The GMC Sierra 1500
The cousin of the Chevy Silverado is the GMC Sierra, which shares a platform and many of its underpinnings with our beloved Chevy pickup. Both GMC and Chevy are part of GM, so they share a lot of technology and features between them. However, GMC is generally positioned slightly above Chevrolet in terms of luxury features and overall refinement. If you like the incredible V8 and diesel engines that Chevy offers but want an upscale interior with great comfort and tech features, looking for a used GMC Sierra is a solid call. You can go with the same model years as the Silverado—2014 for the previous generation or 2019 for the current one—since the GMC Sierra is updated on the same timetable.
Truck #4 – The Ram 1500 Pickup
If the Chevy Silverado and Ford F-150 hold the top two spots in our hearts for American full-size trucks, then the Ram 1500 comes in at a comfortable third position. You might still hear it referred to as the Dodge Ram, but the Ram brand was split off from Dodge for the 2011 model year, and it’s been its own entity ever since. Ram trucks are known for their remarkable HEMI V8 engines and some of the most luxurious and technologically advanced interiors you can find in a truck, especially in recent years. You’ll definitely want to watch for these engines and trims with incredible interior details and features as you look at used Ram models. We like anything past 2013 for the previous generation, but the current generation kicked off with the 2019 model, so keep that in mind as you consider different used options.
Truck #5 – The Toyota Tundra
The first of two fantastic trucks from overseas brands, the Toyota Tundra is a great choice that’s become popular with a lot of drivers in recent years. Toyota might not be the first company that comes to mind for everyone when thinking of trucks, but it has proven capable of delivering great performance and reliable engines in the Tundra. One thing to keep in mind is that Toyota typically has fewer options for engines and configurations, so you’ll find fewer differences between used Tundra models, which can make it easier to find what you’re looking for. The biggest flaw that Toyota recently had with the Tundra is that its second generation ran from 2007 all the way to 2021! Fortunately, there were major updates for the 2010, 2014, and 2018 model years, but that’s still a long time without a full redesign.
Truck #6 – The Nissan Titan
Finally, we come to the Nissan Titan, which is a terrific truck that has gained a number of fans over the years. Much like the Tundra, you’ll find fewer options when it comes to performance with the Nissan Titan, which makes it easy to get a fantastic used model with plenty of power packed into it. We like having a lot of different engine options with a new Chevy Silverado, for example, but it can also make things simpler to just have one good engine and not have to worry about anything else. That being said, you’ll still find two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive examples of the Titan (much like the other trucks we looked at), plus plenty of other available options and features that differ from one used model to another. The current generation of the Titan launched with the 2016 model year, so we’d stick to something no older than that, but a facelift and update for 2020 can make newer Titan models an even better choice.

Which Used Full-Size Truck Is Right for You?
With half a dozen amazing options to choose from, it’s easy to find the perfect used full-size truck with the kind of performance and features you’re looking for. Well, easy in the sense that you can certainly find the ideal combination—all of these options can become a bit overwhelming when you go it alone, however. Just looking at the Chevy Silverado 1500, you have several generations and major differences from one year to another as you consider used models from the last decade; once you add in another five trucks, things can get even more complicated. That’s why it’s so helpful to have someone by your side to work with you and make sure you find the right truck with everything you need. Here at Guntersville Chevrolet, we’re always happy to assist you, and nothing makes us happier than helping a customer get the perfect vehicle they’ve been looking for.
