The comparison between the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 vs 2022 Ram 1500 gives fans of the half-ton segment a lot to look forward to from both trucks. However, in a comparison between two very popular vehicles on the market, only one can stand victorious over the other, and that's what we're here to find out for those of you eyeing either a 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 or a 2022 Ram 1500.
The 2022 Silverado 1500 brings a number of exciting new features to the table, including the highly anticipated ZR2 trim, being made available for the first time on a production Silverado. Additionally, every trim above the LT has a completely redesigned interior with an all-new infotainment suite featuring a larger HD touchscreen. Semi-autonomous driving in the form of Super Cruise is also an option for the 2022 model, along with the redesigned high-output 2.7-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder.
The 2022 Ram 1500 counters the Silverado with the new Laramie G/T and Rebel G/T models, along with the Big Horn BackCountry.The Limited 10th Anniversary Edition also joins the line-up with an upscale interior and special edition badging. The Ram 1500 comes packed with the Uconnect 5 infotainment system across the line-up, along with an all-new clean air system standard on every 2022 model.
The battle of performance between the Silverado 1500 and Ram 1500 is as close as you can get in this segment. Each full-size pickup boasts some segment-defying feat for which the competition is nipping at the heels. The Ram 1500 for 2022 has three power plants to choose from, all of which are married to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The base engine is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with eTorque that produces 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. A 5.7-liter Hemi Eagle V8 with 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque is also available and is available with or without eTorque. Finally, there's the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 that manages 260 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque.
To counter this, the 2022 Silverado 1500 comes with four optional powertrains of a unique variety. The base 2.7-liter turbocharged high-output 4-cylinder delivers 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. The inline 4-cylinder is married to an 8-speed automatic transmission. However, every other powertrain option for the Silverado 1500 is paired with an advanced 10-speed automatic transmission––including both the 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 and the 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8. And yes, with the 6.2-liter V8, the Silverado 1500 soundly beats the Ram 1500 line-up in the horsepower department, outputting 420 horsepower.
For maximum torque, efficiency, and turbocharged diesel power, the 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel is the way to go. The inline 6-cylinder offers up 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, helping elevate the utilitarian capabilities of the Silverado for a truly dependable pickup for just about any occasion. With available four-wheel drive, StabiliTrak stability management and traction control, and an AutoTrac transfer case, the Silverado is more than capable of tackling any task you toss at it.
The Ram 1500 is no slouch, though. It offers a wide range of standard and available performance features, such as a locking rear axle, four-wheel drive capabilities, and an electric parking brake. However, the Silverado 1500 offers similar features and outputs more horsepower than the Ram, making it the more reliable pick of the two. It's especially useful for those who want a capable and sporty truck that features all of the necessary mechanical amenities that you need for the kind of driving you're planning on doing.
One of the most talked-about comparisons between the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 vs 2022 Ram 1500 is the two trucks' capabilities: What can they haul? How much can they tow? While both trucks offer multiple cab options, the Ram offers a short bed or a standard bed, but sadly no long bed. The Silverado, alternatively, does give you access to three different bed sizes, each of which offers more cubic feet of cargo volume than the Ram 1500. For instance, the Ram's short bed offers 53.9 cubic feet of space, while the Silverado 1500's short bed offers 62.9 cubic feet of space. The Ram 1500 standard bed has 61.5 cubic feet of cargo volume, while the Silverado delivers 71.7 cubic feet of cargo volume. Finally, the Silverado 1500 has a long bed with a best-in-class 89.1 cubic feet of available cargo volume, something that's not available on the Ram 1500, giving the Silverado the clear edge in the capacity department.

Many of these features are also available on the Silverado 1500, including a complete advanced trailering system featuring security alerts, maintenance reminders, light sequencing, a robust pre-departure checklist, and electrical diagnostics.
The Silverado comes with hill descent control, an available heavy-duty air filter, and an available performance air intake system. With hitch guidance, hitch view, and the HD rear vision camera, you also have complete control over how you view and monitor the trailer attachments. With an 8-inch driver information display center and 13.4-inch HD touchscreen powered by Google Built-In with navigation support and voice-activated commands, you have a complete infotainment control center available at your fingertips in the Silverado. This also includes integrated support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Not only does the 2022 Silverado 1500 have larger infotainment displays and driver information centers than the 2022 Ram 1500, but it also comes with the semi-autonomous driving suite called Super Cruise.
